What we do

Durham College Advising provides a personalized plan for students and their families to tackle the university application and admissions process. With progress checks, families can expect to feel that the process is manageable, and at no point overwhelming. We take into consideration your specific goals, whether they be academic, social, athletic or otherwise, and create a customized approach which makes your student confident at each stage of the process. We want you to ultimately be excited to find the school of your dreams.

For specific examples of how DCA helps at each stage, visit the Services page of the website.

If you’re a member of a community organization that is looking to host a “college night”, please contact DCA at durhamcollegeadvising@gmail.com with the subject line:“Speaking Engagement Request”.

With Liz, I never felt like just a name on a list of possible applicants. She took a personal interest in my admissions process.

WHY hire an independent Consultant?

DCA was founded to help students and their families seeking calm in the college admissions process. All too often, families starting the process feel lost, saying, “We don’t know what we don’t know.” They need answers, but don’t necessarily know what questions they should be asking. Since there is no one resource for the college application process, the whole endeavor can be intimidating, and that’s where independent consulting and DCA comes in. We take the time to establish a personalized structure, geared specifically to your family’s goals by listening. We serve as a valuable resource independently or to supplement the support your student receives at school and at home.

WHY HIRE DURHAM COLLEGE ADVISING?

DCA founder, Liz Durham, especially loves working with students looking for a change in environment for their college years. Having grown up in Dallas, Texas with the aim of attending college in the northeast, Liz learned early on that there would be an extra effort required to achieve that goal. So, maybe you’re an international student looking to attend “Uni” in the U.S., or you’re from a rural town looking for a big city, or you simply may not full grasp what you want yet, and need some help finding it. Whatever it is, DCA is here to help you with this next big milestone.

Liz has worked with families both domestically and internationally and utilizes many different modes of communication to make this process simpler for families. You can connect with her on WhatsApp, Zoom, FaceTime and others. Visit the contact page to connect.

We were very happy with the services you provided. You kept us focused and applied the necessary pressure to keep us on pace. It was very helpful.

We also appreciated your realistic way of thinking as opposed to being an illusionist, telling us what we want to hear. Thank you!”
